Not Just a Mascot: The Story Behind Big Freighto

It’s time to address the elephant in the room, or I should say…the Bigfoot in the room.

If you’ve spent any time around Bitfreighter, you’ve probably noticed there’s a Bigfoot lurking, or maybe you haven’t…that might be the point.

On our website. At events. On a t-shirt. Maybe even peeking out in the background of a social media post.

We hear it often, “Why Bigfoot?”

The answer at first, is pretty simple. It started with two letters. BF.

BF stands for Bitfreighter, but somewhere along the way, we realized we had the same initials as Bigfoot. Honestly? It just fit.

The people in logistics are some of the best you'll meet. The industry itself? Not exactly known for having fun. Most technology companies look and sound the same.

At Bitfreighter, we wanted a brand that people remember, but also reflects who we are: approachable, a little unexpected, and confident enough not to take ourselves too seriously.

Our beloved Big Freighto isn't just a mascot. He's a reminder that software doesn't have to be bland to be powerful.

Behind the personality is a team obsessed with building infrastructure that actually helps logistics companies grow. We believe EDI and quoting should be simple, and built for scale. Integrations shouldn't be painful. And growth shouldn't come with surprise software costs.

Those ideas are serious.

We just think our industry could use a little more fun.

As we continue to grow, so does the community around us. Customers and partners have become friends. Our annual User Tournament is our favorite tradition, not because of the golf, but because it brings people together from across the freight industry for a good cause.

It's an opportunity to support something bigger than ourselves.

Each year, tournament proceeds help support the fight against ALS, a cause that's deeply meaningful to our team. We believe building a great company also means showing up for the communities and people around us.

That mindset carries through everything we do.

Technology matters. Relationships matter more.

So yes, you'll continue to see Big Freighto around.

Sometimes hiding in the background. Sometimes making an appearance at an event. Always reminding us that the best companies build more than software, they build communities that people actually want to be part of.

And if you happen to spot Big Freighto at our next event, be sure to say hello.

He's elusive... but if you hang around, he’s a little easier to find these days.
